Real Voices, Real Impact: How Our Students Are Transforming Their Futures
At WorldQuant University, we believe that the most powerful stories come from the students themselves. These are the people who have faced challenges, seized opportunities, and transformed their futures through education.
WQU recently connected with a couple of ALX fellows who were well on their way to a certificate in the Applied Data Science Lab (ADSL). We gained useful knowledge about the curriculum itself and heard feedback firsthand about how WQU’s ADSL stacked up against other programs.
Gerald Majoni from Harare, Zimbabwe who has a background in economic diplomacy, business management, and financial analysis, has long been interested in pursuing a career in data science. Having completed various foundational courses prior to joining WQU, he appreciated the Lab’s hands-on approach:
“The Lab is like the real world. You have different use cases for each and every project and you have to start from the data wrangling up to the communication [of your findings] to technical and non-technical people.”
Anthony Ndungu, a mechanical engineer from Nairobi, Kenya, is working on both the Applied Data Science Lab and the MSc in Financial Engineering program at the same time. Recognizing the transferability of the skills taught in both programs, he plans to pivot to the supply chain industry and encourages others to see how quantitative skills can be applied across sectors:
“I've never done any finance courses and I’m not that big on theoretical things, but when I started going through and digging in deeper, I saw that the MScFE program was right for me. So I will just encourage people to just look into it and just try.”
Education is more than just a gateway to employment—it’s a path to a brighter future, a stronger community, and a more just world. These students are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the change-makers of today. Thank you for being part of our journey. Together, we can empower the next generation to overcome barriers to access and create lasting change.
