WQU CEO Daphne Kis discusses Building Tomorrow’s Workforce Today at Milken Global Conference
This past week, WorldQuant University CEO Daphne Kis attended this year’s Milken Global Conference in Los Angeles, focused on Navigating a World in Transition. With several other speakers, including the Chancellor of University of California San Diego, a former member of the US Department of Labor, and the Head of Global Philanthropy for JPMorgan Chase, Daphne spoke on the Building Tomorrow’s Workforce Today panel.
Speakers acknowledged the gap in the labor market and the increased demand and pay for workers with these skill sets. As Daphne noted, the key to mending this relationship is to create and strengthen an ecosystem that better meets the needs of students and employers alike. There’s a growing demand for quantitative skills across industries, and technology-enabled learning environments like online collaboration and virtual reality have a role to play in building the future workforce.
As panelists discussed the need for better feedback loops between education and employers, a big takeaway for Daphne was the need to integrate our conversations, even at places like Milken. Key discussions around education should be happening in tandem with key discussions around business. The integration of the two is imperative to building a healthy and productive workforce well into the future.
